hula hooping marathon

I was about to go to sleep when a friend linked me to this live stream of someone doing a hula hoop marathon. As of me writing this, he’s been going for thirty five hours, no breaks, and needs to make it past seventy five in order to beat the record. A quick search for his name, Aaron Hibbs, pulls up a news article about him training for this back in 2007, but I’m unsure what happened between then and now. There’s also an article here talking about what’s going on in this stream.

The audio on the stream link is horrendous so I suggest turning it off or down if you plan on watching for a while. You won’t expect to, but it’s kind of hypnotizing.

It just brings up two points to me: 1) you can see anything on the internet, and 2) people will try anything to be the best.

I just watched a documentary miniseries …

I just watched a documentary miniseries called “Transgeneration” about college age transexuals who were starting to transition. There was a girl who was completely focused on getting surgery, two ftms who were going to a women’s college, a woman who was really afraid of letting her college friends know she used to be a man, and a guy whose mom refused to let him transition in her presence (she even called him his female name, Tamar, instead of what he preferred to be addressed by, TJ).

The show was really interesting because I am very interested in the lines between gender and sex and sexuality. All of the transexuals on the show were straight. TJ was dating a girl who said something to the extent that she never thought of herself as gay or straight — she was just in love with him.

Anyway, I always feel curious as to what has happened to people who I’ve seen in documentaries, and it turns out that TJ has just started a vlog. The show ended with him saying he was going to return to his home as a woman, but since then, he’s decided to actually transition. His vlog is trannytrent, and I don’t know if he’s going by the name Trent now. He just has had his top surgery and is newly on t.

Vlogs really are the medium in which life changes like this are best observed. A lot of things you can say about your life, but some should be shown.
